We’ve been working in my class this term on a goal of each student being involved in recording a podcast. Today, we recorded the first tracks - two pairs of students recorded audio that they will need to edit a little before uploading (just been subscribing the class to podomatic tonight).
I’ll blog more about it at another time when it’s not so late (after all, it’s a school night!), but they’re really starting to get engaged now the recording’s going and they can see the exciting end in sight. I played the first recordings to the class this afternoon and they absolutely loved them - spontaneous applause burst out after playing each track.
And I’ve discovered a fantastic side-effect - I told the class today they had to work in total silence while the recordings took place, and they did - for a full 25 minutes! My class never does that!

Robert, this is just a fabulous outcome! Have you thought of also adding the podcasts to the class blog? it is so easy to upload that mp3 file to your edublogs account! These aren’t baby steps at all - they are leading the way very nicely for lost of other teachers

Hi Robert,
Great to hear that you are venturing into podcasting. As Judy says getting the recording up can be that trickiest bit, (I take it that you are using Audacity. Have you grabbed a copy of the notes on my site for Audacity?). Once you have the file edited and turned into an mp3 file it is relatively simple to upload to Podomatic and then grab the link back to insert into your blog. If it helps you might like to get your students to listen into our grade 5/6 podcasts via Podomatic at http://seniorbps.podomatic.com/

Hi John,
Thanks for the advice. We are using Audacity for the recording. We listened to one of your class’ podcasts to give the studentd an idea of what can be done, and I’ve been making use of what I learnt from your workshop at last year’s Interactive Whiteboard conference at Castle Hill here in Sydney. So let’s cross our fingers!
